I believe passionately about the value of a strong education and lifelong learning, beginning in early childhood. I believe every child in Chatham County should have equal access to a high-quality public-school education, regardless of household income or where they live. I believe in the importance of strong schools to build strong communities.

The importance of education has been instilled in me since I was a child. My mom is a retired teacher, and both of her parents were teachers. My father was the first in his family to attend college. The early years of my career focused on community education. And now, I would be honored to continue my commitment to education in leadership for the Savannah -Chatham County Public School System.

A native of Georgia and product of public schools, I have lived in Savannah for over twenty years. As an urban planner, I have a keen understanding of how to develop and implement effective public policy. My work is often focused on civic engagement and building consensus around complex community issues.  I frequently work with a broad cross-section of our community, including neighborhoods, businesses, non-profit organizations, and public agencies. My priorities reflect my values of collaboration, engagement, and wellness.

  • Coordination with local governments and community partners – Coordination and collaboration is smart for our students and our communities.  From poverty reduction to public spaces, community leaders should work together and break down silos.
  • Active engagement of teachers, administration, and youth – No one knows our schools better than those who are there day in and day out.  Through active engagement, we can collaborate to do more of what’s working well and find solutions for what’s not.
  • Healthy buildings for healthy students High quality learning environments improve academic performance, increase teacher retention, and more.  Natural light, proper acoustics, outdoor classrooms, and similar strategies lead to better learning and health outcomes.

I am also an entrepreneur. I began my career in the public sector and started my own company, Symbioscity, almost a decade ago. My husband and I have two children who are students in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System – a daughter in 11th grade and a son in 7th grade.
